Leap Year Day!

I was up this morning at 6:00, started checking my emails at 7:00, it is now 9:00 and I have just finished looking at all the blog sites, etc. What fun to roam through all the blogs. Today it is raining, a great day for sewing and embroidering. I have great plans for new quilts, thanks to my Master Works class that I attended last night. Hopefully you will see the photos in the future.

Spring is Near!

Every year I wait for the Canadian Geese to return to our ponds. We have one couple that always makes a nest around a big tree on the pond right behind our house. Well, yesterday they started making their nest. I was so excited that they have returned once again. They really work on this nest by pulling twigs, grasses and weeds. They also use their feathers to insulate the nest. It really is fun to watch the process of building the nest, laying the eggs, taking care of the eggs and finally the birth of the little ones. We have 4 ponds on our property and once the babies are here mom and dad start walking them from pond to pond. As the summer comes and they become bigger I get the pleasure of watching them try to fly, first by running and flapping their wings and then finally they are off. At fist it is only for a short distance and as they get stronger the distance gets further away, but they always return. Then one day in the fall they will take off and will not come back until next year which lets me know that winter is coming again. For now I have the joy of knowing that spring is near and I have the rest of the year to watch nature in motion. What a joy it is!

A little under the weather

Last week I was doing so good and now I am trying to come out from under the "bug" I have. I guess I'm in the majority around here, because schools have been closed due to so much sickness. I sure hope this passes soon and I can get back to my usual routine.

Happy Valentines Day!

Well today I'm off to get my latest picture framed so I can give it to Kaitlin. I really hope she enjoys it. I am also going to stop in for a visit with my Mom. I try to get there 2-3 times a week. She seems to be doing very well this week. This weekend I plan on making pictures of all of my quilts and posting them to my blog. I want to put them in a slide show. Wish me luck! Have a great day and I'll see ya soon.

" Not So Bad!

Well, I have finally done it! I never thought that I would have a "blog". So far it is not that bad and I have the ladies in "CQ for Newbies" to thank for the inspiration to give it a try. I look forward to a great year and more new experiences.

Embroidery and Quilting

This is my last art quilt I made for my daughter. She found the pattern while on a weekend trip to Gatlinburg. I always hit the quilt shops when I travel, so while we were there she picked out the material. I love working with batics because the colors are so vibrant. I added some metallic thread and beads for embellishment and hand quilted it.

This idea came from my friend Lola. She gave me a photo of one she saw on ebay. I made this for my daughter's wedding shower. The "cake" is made from white towels, rolled and stacked. I embroidered the wedding couple, date, and doves holding ribbon on seperate material and pinned them to the towels. The flowers were added for additional decoration. It made a great centerpiece.

My Oil Paintings

This is my first oil painting made last year. It is a picture of my husband Rick, and our friend. We were at their cottage in Bidderford Pool, Maine. They looked so restful sitting there reading the morning paper, that I could not resist taking the photo. Rick ask me to paint this one first. It was a great challange, but worth every minute.

This one is my first attempt with flowers. I think I should have tried a different one because I had a little trouble with it, but it turned out okay.

This is my mother's favorite. She said the butterfly looks like it could just fly off the canvas. She has this one hanging in her room at the nursing home.

This one is my original still life. I set the scene on my table using a lace shawl and wine made from our grapes. We use our own labels "K & R Vineyard". The background is taken from the backsplash in our kitchen. I painted this one October 2007. It works very well in our kitchen.
