Christmas Is Exhausting!

I just could not resist this shot! They are sleeping like babies!

This is Tipper, our 9 month old "pup" and her best buddy, PeeWee the cat.  They are napping on the couch.  I keep a blanket thrown over it so it won't get covered with hair.  They are so funny when the play together. I would have taken a shot of Ricky asleep in the recliner but I don't think he wants to be posted on the web.  We have had a great Christmas, saw all the family from both sides, within the past 2 weeks and are now enjoying a restful afternoon with just the two of us at home.  I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Walking on Water (Ice)!

The sun is finally shining this morning and if it continues maybe the ducks won't have to do this much longer!

Our ponds have been frozen for several days now.  At least we are lucky enough that we don't have snow covering the ground, even though it would be nice for Christmas.  I have a hard time doing anything productive when the temps drop.  I just want to stay in my jammies and drink coffee by the fire.

We are having our family Christmas today. This will be a new tradition started this year so we will see how it goes.  I can only pray that all goes well and we are able to share good times together.  I'm giving jelly and jam to all, hope they like it!

Addition to Studio!

Saturday my wonderful husband fixed a stand for my quilt batting.

Lately it has been standing up in a corner of my studio.  I am so excited about this and it's just in time for me to use.  I am ready to put another quilt on my longarm so I get to try it out this week.  The plaid fabric that you can see is the backing for the quilt.  He also made me a big board to go over my ironing board.  I'll post about that another day because I have got to put a cover on it.  I am so thankful for having a husband that will support the things I like to do.  Have a great day!

After Thanksgiving Surprise!

Wow, what a surprise I received when I woke up this morning, no, when Ricky woke me up this morning.  "Was there a needle in this spool of thread"?  Me in my sleep state replied, What?  He repeated the question and then I rolled over to see this

Tipper, our new dog now 8 months old and tall enough to take anything off the side table, found my thread that I was using to stitch the binding on a quilt.  It's obvious she is still in the chewing stage.  Ricky said that I could pull the twisted parts off and maybe find some good pieces.  I don't know about that, it looks pretty messed up if you ask me.  Oh well, that's what happens when you leave things out.  Luckily she did not get the thimble or small scissors.  Have a great day and I'll chat later!

Be Thankful!

With everything going on in this old world, we all need to thank God for the good things in life.  I look around me sometimes and wonder where I would be if I did not have God in my life.  So, during this week of Thanksgiving I want to leave a little note for everyone.  This is taken from my calender and does not have an author so I don't know who to give the credit to, but it's a good one.

"Throughout the season of Thanksgiving, may our hearts be full of love for all humankind.  Let us draw near to family and friends and reach out to strangers.  In other words, may we act more like angels."

I wish everyone the best during this season and may God bless you all!

Quilting Complete

I have finally finished the quilting on my Carolina Christmas quilt.

This is my first quilt using a pantograph.  I am pleased with the way it.  I used a varigated cotton thread on the top and bobbin.  I wasn't very happy with it while I was working on it but once I got it off the machine and on my bed, I was very happy.  Now all I have to do is make sure to square it up and add the binding.  Just in time for Bonnie Hunter's next mystery.  I am trying to decide about my colors now.

Here is another quilt I have just finished and have ready for the longarm.  I am looking at the plaid for the back but I want to hold off for a while, just to make sure I like it.

This one is a queen size and I'm trying to use fabric from my stash for the backing.  I do have a red that I'm thinking about but I'll just have to wait and see what talks to me the most.

Girl With A Pearl

I finished my newest painting today.  It's a study, in oil, of Johannes Veemeer's "Girl With A Pearl Earring".  He painted the original in 1665- 1666.  My painting is 18" x 24".  She is one in a series of paintings that I will be working on titled "Women from the Masters".

I really love the original painting and I'm very proud of what I have accomplished.  I can't imagine the type of oils that were used in the 1600's.  One thing I know is that the painters of that time were incredible.  I guess that's why they are called "Masters" today.  The next in this series will be Mona Lisa.

Where Have You Been?

Actually, I haven't been anywhere, just not blogging.  Oh, I'm still painting, sewing, quilting, and doing other things I just don't get online that much.  One thing I did was move the computer out of my studio.  I felt that I was spending too much time online so I moved it back into the house and put it upstairs in our spare room.

I think I talked about a fracture in my foot, back in the early part of the year.  Well, luck would have it I torn a ligament in the same foot and was back in a boot for another 6 weeks.  Now, I'm boot free but not back to walking for exercise.  I also spent about 8 weeks on meds for bronchitis.  Ricky had to have stitches due to a run-in with a tree limb, while he was doing some dozier work.  He was very lucky, an inch or two and he would be without an eye right now.  Enough about the bad, now for the good.

We are well, able to do what we want each day and living on the farm is good, thank you Lord!

I don't know how often I will post but I hope to keep up with everyone on a regular basis.  I have missed reading about the blogs I follow, you're kinda like extended family.  Hope all has been well with everyone and I'll chat again later.  (Note: I am using the laptop, in the kitchen, to send this.  On my out to my studio to work on some quilts.)  Have a great day!

The Sunsets Are Beautiful!

I tell ya, the sunsets are really beautiful this year. I don't know if it's the heat or what but, they are something! Here are just a few that I have been able to capture.

There's just something about the colors that have been wonderful to look at.  I think I see a series of paintings in the works!

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in "stuff" that we forget to stop and look at what's around us.  When you look at views like this you can't help but praise God for this beautiful world He has given us.

Two Completed Paintings!

Today I completed 2 of my oil paintings.  I have them posted on "My Paintings" page as well as here.

"Eagle Pride"
I found a picture on the internet that just touched my heart. I wanted something that would make you think about our country when you looked at it and to me this one says it all.

This is an original titled "Last Rose of Summer".  I distorted the background on this on so the rose itself would pop off the canvas.  I am proud of the way both of these have turned out.

I have also added a new original work in progress titled "Coastline at Tulum".  I have another one going as well that is a picture of a sunset I made in Tucson AZ.  Watch for it in the future.

Not much else going on lately due to problems with allergies.  Maybe I can get back in the groove soon. Have a good one!

isn't She Cute!

This is Tipper!  She's our new pup, yes pup just 4 months old, that I found on the road last month. She is a mix of Lab and Border Collie.

I just had to take these pictures because she is just so funny. I thought she was burying something but not true.

I told Ricky she was digging her way to China. But when I got her attention and she looked up this is what I found.

She was in the pond before she started digging, so obviously her face, feet and legs were covered in mulch.  I had to put her in her outside tub to get her cleaned off.  Yes, she loves the water, especially the mist setting on the hosepipe.

Here she is loving the cat!  They play together alot!

The day I found her was about one week after we had to put our Healer down.  We had him for 15 years and it was not an easy thing to do.  But, then I took a walk one morning and here comes this little black and white pup out from inside a pipe that runs under the road.  I told Ricky, it was God's will because any other time I would not have been there or she would not have came out.  We love her to pieces and she has really brought some laughter back into the home.  You just never know what's going to come your way.

You Want Me to Make What?!!!?

While having lunch with Ricky today he said, "I want you to build something for me."  Build something?  "Yes, I want you to build me a tube that will go around my cow rubs."  Then he said, "I really need 3 of them."  You know, he has ask me to make things for him before, like window covers for his Jeep, covers for his music amps and a blanket to put up inside his plane in the winter, but this one, I think, takes the cake.  Cow rubs!!!

I told him I had just received some fabric from a neighbor and thought that I had what he needed.  If not I can go buy it.  Yeah, more material!!!

So off I go to the barn to measure the rub. It needs to be about 10ft long and 17" around.  Once I get it made he will soak it in diesel fuel and a liquid for flies, hang it, and then when the cows go under it they will get it on their faces and it will keep the flies off and they won't get pink eye.

I never know what he will ask me to do but it's nice to know that I can help him, even though he could probably buy what he needs.  After all, he has made things for my studio that has saved me time and money so it turns out to be an even swap.  I love life on the farm!

Thread Box?

A friend stopped by yesterday and gave me some sewing items.  Among them was this box. I have never seen one like this so I was pretty excited to get it.

When I opened it I found all this thread, some of which I have never heard of.  Are you familiar with Ivory Brand.  All of the Ivory thread is on small wooden spools.

I think this is the neatest item I have received in a long time.  I like collecting antique and old sewing items and am very grateful for receiving this one.

Look What I Found!

On Thursday I went to a city wide yard sale and this is what I found.

I have 12 circles all hand stitched from original 30's - 40's fabrics.  They just fit into a 9" square.  I am going to soak them to see if I can get them a little cleaner and then they are going on muslin squares. I'm also thinking about adding a sashing made out of squares of reproduction fabrics that I have.  I'll have to do a sample and see how it looks.  I was so excited when I found these and the lady gave them to me for $10.

Where's the Repair Man?

Do you know how frustrating it is to sit and wait for a repair man?  Do you know what it's like to be without a washer for 3 days?  Now, add to that the fact that it's so hot outside that Ricky is changing his clothes about 2 or 3 times a day.  Yesterday morning he came in after working the cows (YUK, the POOP!) changed and went to the hay field.  Later he came in from the hay field (YUK, the SWEAT!) and then in the evening went back to add rubs for the cows (YUK, the DIESEL FUEL!). I made him leave that set of clothes outside. I told him this morning I was having withdrawals from washing.  Well, today the guy was supposed to be here between 8 and 11.  It's 10:45 and I just called and said: "you were supposed to be here this morning", his reply, "oh, yes I was, now tell me again where you live".  Now, I'm waiting again for another hour, oh well, it's all in a days wait, but it sure is frustrating.

Another Quilt Top Finished!

This afternoon I finished this top.  It was a mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunters Quiltville site.

I hope to get the backing ready and have this baby loaded for quilting by the end of the week.  My son & daughter-in-law came by Sunday and she said she would like to have it so I think I'll give it a name: "Christie's Choice".  Now, I'm off to put the blocks of another quilt together. Have a good one!

Paintings In Progress Page!

Today I decided to add another page to my blog.  This one has photos of my paintings that I am working on.  I have 4 that I am working on here at home and 1 at our studio, Artists On Main, in Goodlettsville. Here is a picture of what I did today.  I'm stepping outside my box a little with this one.  Instead of painting the leaves in the background in detail I decided to really distort them.  I might add some more prominent ones later but for now I like it as is.

New Painting Added

Here is a new painting that I have added to My Paintings page.

I went a little wild with the colors but I really like it.  It adds a little pizzazz to a room!

Hemingway's Cats

I spent most all day in my studio painting.  Our art society is having an event this fall and I wanted to get to work on some pictures that have been hanging around begging for completion. So here is what I worked on today:

I painted the chairs and table as well as some of the greenery and flowers.  All that is left to paint are some additional flowers and vines and, of course, the cats.

This painting is from a photo I made at Hemingway's home in Key West.  There are quite a few cats there that have the run of the property.  I couldn't resist taking a picture of them lounging in the garden. They looked so peaceful and I love cats.

Updated My Quilts Page!

I finally have my quilts page updated.  I'm pleased with the way it has turned out, so take a peek at it.  I will continue to add new pictures as I make progress in my quilting. Things are going well and I plan on having a quilt on my frame by the end of the week.

I'm Scrapbooking Again!!!

I'm so excited!  I now have space to scrapbook again!

Notice that rolling cart beside my table, I purchased it over the weekend.  It holds all my scrapbook supplies which allowed me to clean off the table.  All I have to do now is roll it around to the side and I have everything I need right there.  I even added pictures to five pages this afternoon.  Now I get to work on my albums again.  Yahoo!!!

New Quilt Block

Here is a block from my latest quilt in progress. It's a pattern designed by Debbie Bowles, "BQ2", from Maple Island Quilts.

I purchased the floral fabric to make purses with but, one day while strolling through my local quilt shop I noticed a sample quilt on the wall.  That was all it took. I had to have the pattern.  I am making 30 18" blocks which will give me a queen size quilt.  They really go together quickly. I should have the top completed this week.  You can see the pattern at www.mapleislandquilts.com.  She has some real cool patterns.

EQ7 is here!

I received EQ7 yesterday afternoon.  I am really looking forward to working with this.  I have EQ5 but never put it to good use.  About the time I started working with it I heard EQ7 was coming out and all the talk sounded like it would be worth having it. I am getting ready to install it and take a look at what it can do.  Ricky ask me several months ago when I was going to design my own quilt.  Now I will be able to do that as well as create a panto to use for quilting.  Looks like I'm going to be a busy lady this summer.

Making Some Changes!

I have been playing around with the new designer section of blogger and found a lot of neat templates.  I chose this one because it reminds me of Orange Sherbet and looks refreshing for the summer.
I hope to get all of my quilts photographed and loaded on My Quilts page.  After all, quilting is my favorite hobby and I have neglected to show what I have actually completed.  I also plan on posting about some of the projects I currently have in the works.
I will also be adding a couple of other pictures of my oil paintings.  So, tomorrow is my catch up day. Wish me luck!!

Things Have Settled Down!

Mom made it through her surgery better than expected.  She did have a set back 2 days later but the doctors changed her medicine and she slowly bounced back.  She is back at the nursing home and is beginning to make progress.  The therapist is working with her to get her up in a wheelchair so she can take some physical therapy. I pray that her progress will continue and she will have a good summer.

My Prayer Request!

Well, it has been a few days since my last post.  I have been a little busy with my Mom.  She is having surgery in the morning and we have made several trips to the doctors in the past weeks.  I won't go into all the details because the important thing is just sending out the prayer request.  I can only leave this in the hands of the surgeon and his team and most importantly in the hands of God. So, please say a prayer for my mom, Betty Goff, and for me, that I can stay strong for her. I'll be in touch soon, thank you and God Bless.

Guess What I'm Eating?

Look at what Ricky came home with the other day!

After getting these babies ready I had to make a pound cake, of course we had to have ice cream and I love wipped topping. So, I am obviously adding on a few extra pounds in the process of enjoying strawberrys so early in the year. Can't help it, they taste great!

Oh My All the Water!

I have lived in Middle Tennessee all my life and I can't believe the flooding that has taken place.  There are areas of Nashville and the surrounding cities that are still under water, 3 days after the rain stopped.  One of the main roads going into Springfield is still under water.  Ricky carried the photographer for the Robertson County Times up in his plane on Monday morning and he could not believe the sight.   To see a report about Clarksville, close to me, click on this link. It is just unbelieveable.  http://www.youtube.com/clarksvillenow

In all my years we have never had flooding this bad. I can only pray for the people that were lost and the ones that have lost their homes. We will get through this with faith, prayers and help from each other.

Shops Closing

I have really been disappointed during this month because 3 of my favorite shops have closed. First I received an email telling me that my local quilt shop was closing. I think she is moving all of the material to her home. The next week I found out that my local Baby Lock store was closing.  This one really got me, I don't think anyone had a clue they were shutting down.  About three days later I received a letter in the mail telling me that another sewing shop was closing. I used to buy my material for baby dresses there. It was were I learned to smock and they had such a good variety of threads, buttons, and lace, oh my the lace was beautiful.  Anyway, I could not help but wonder what is going to happen to other independent store owners as time goes by. I will surely miss all of the friends I made through the years at those stores and I wish them all a great future.

Changes to my blog

Today I have made a couple of changes to my blog. One is the template which I really like. The other is an additional page, My Paintings, listed at the top. I have moved my paintings to one page where you can scroll through to look at them. Eventually I will add information about each one. I read in one of my groups that blogger had the capability of adding seperate pages and I like that idea. I will be adding new pages for my quilts and my fiber art work. I am excited about this change so stay tuned for additional information. Have a wonderful day!

Chalk Pastels

Have you ever used chalk pastels? I recently purchased a small set of soft pastels and thought I would give them a try. Here's a couple of pictures that I have done.

I found the pictures on the internet, printed them in a 5 x 7 size and used colored tracing paper to outline the objects. I have a couple of hard bristle brushes that I used to blend the chalks with. I really like the way they turned out.

Since I have completed these I have found Pastel Paper in various colors that I plan on using for my next picture. I don't know yet what it will be, I just have to wait for the spark to hit me. Have a good one!

Christmas Quilt Top

After many month and many pieces I have completed my Christmas Quilt top. I just put the last row on it a few minutes ago. I'm going to let it set for awhile until I come up with the right border for it. This one was a challenge but it will be beautiful on my bed. I have already decided on variegated thread, in shades of red and green, if I can find it. Thanks to Bonnie Hunter for providing the pattern in a mystery. If you like scrap quilts you need to check out her site at www.quiltville.com.

Another First for Me!

Here it is, another first for me. I am in the Learning Fiber Arts group and one of the classes is thread painting, which is something I have never tried, until today. This morning I was determined to try my hand at this and once I sat down and started the first stitch it all came together. This little guy doesn't look to bad. I found the limb outside on the ground and thought I would just perch him on it for awhile. I plan on thread painting one to finish the project. I really had fun doing this and it was something else to get me out of my box.

My First Postcard!

Here is a pic of my first postcard. I'm really pleased with it. Now all I have to do is make 2 more in this color range. Then I have to start on the ones with sequins. I like the way this makes me think. Have a great one!

My First Mini Quilt!

This is the first Mini Quilt that I have made.

It is for an exchange with a group, Postcard Pizzazz, that I joined recently. This worked up really quickly and I had fun using the ribbon, crystals and beads. I think I'm going to like the new groups that I have joined. I also made my first postcard and mailed it to myself. I want to make sure it goes through the mail process before I work on the others. In the Art4Mail group the exchange I joined is for a color study with purple and yellow. It's kinda fun to learn new things. I hope they help me broaden my thinking when it comes to fiber art.

What a wonderful afternoon!

I am sitting on my porch, listening to the birds & wind chimes while Ricky finishes the yard work and let me tell ya it is absolutely beautiful out here. The sun is shining, a little breeze and spring is in the air. By the end of the week our temps should be close to 80. After art class I stopped and picked up a couple of steaks and we plan on grilling this evening. You should see Ricky, he has our 3 Yorkies and or Dachshund on the gator with him while he sweeps the yard. They just love to ride while he works. Benji the oldest yorkie usually stands on the back and barks at everything. I think he is telling all the others that he's in charge. It is so peaceful here and I am truly blessed to have the life I do. If my foot was out of this "boot" I would be out there walking and really enjoying the view. I go back to the Dr. next week and hope to be through with this thing. Enjoy you day!

The Frustration of it All

I have just finished quilting a lap quilt for my mother and I'll tell ya, it is not the best thing I have done.

The quilt is a Friendship Basket pattern and I wanted to do some echo stitching around the basket handle but when I tried it on the first block it looked horrible. I ended up taking out a lot of the quilting and starting over with just free motion stitching. I know that Mom will enjoy the quilt, I just wish I could have done a better job.

Before I quilt anything else I will do some practicing on whole cloth. I want to learn how to make feathers, flowers and leaves. I need to get online and check out some of the sites that have machine quilting. Maybe I can find some videos to watch. I think I'll try some sketching on paper tonight just to get an idea about the flow of the stitching.

Down but not out

I just returned from my Orthopedic doctor sporting a "nice boot" because of a fractured bone in my foot. I messed it up during the snow, not by falling but trying to get the snow off my shoe. I thought it was bruised but the pain would not go away. I finally gave up and had it checked out. After 2 sets of ex rays and 1 MRI I'm sporting a "new shoe". I'm not too upset because they thought I had torn ligaments which would require surgery so, actually I feel pretty good. Hopefully I will be back on 2 feet by mid April. By then the weather will be great for walking. I will just have to get used to watching my steps and not trip over my own feet because this thing makes me a little clumsy. Hope you're having a better time.

March is here!

I tell ya, I never have been so happy to see March as I have this year. Today the sun is out and the temp is above 65, I have the windows open and the sounds of the geese on the pond is a great thing to hear. I am not a fan of dull, dreary days (don't know anyone that is) and to have a day like today really makes me smile. I hope that this year will bring new and beautiful things to everyone, including myself. I'm really looking forward to it. Have a good one and I'll see ya later.

Aprons for Artists

Here's what I have been working on for the last week or two.

New aprons for our artists that paint at Artists On Main. The ones I am doing have the artists name above the design. Now, I don't have a business but I did offer to do these for our group. Well, the first day of stitching was great, the second day was not. I ended up having to take my machine to my local dealer which took about 4 days before I got it back. Oh my was I frustrated! I have finally got everything going again and have been hard at work on these since 8 a.m. this morning. I have completed about twelve and have about that many left. With luck and prayers I will get the majority of them completed this weekend. Gotta go, thread change time.

Waiting for Warm Weather!

I will be so glad when Spring gets here. I know our winter is not as bad as other areas (thank goodness for that), but I think I'm about over the cold and snow. I want to see trees budding and flowers blooming. I guess you can tell it's just one of those gloomy days here at home. Enough of that, Valentine's Day is Sunday and I hope that everyone has a wonderful day. Ricky ask me last night what I wanted and usually I say nothing, but this time I said a 2 carat diamond ring, a diamond watch, a weekend getaway, and I just went on and on about "stuff". It caught him off guard and he had no reply. I really thought it was funny. Actually, I am so blessed with my life that I don't need anything. I just hope for peace in the world and less worry for everyone. See ya later, gotta go!

Cleaned My Studio!

That title, "Cleaned My Studio", sounds like I never clean up at all. Actually, what I did was consolidate and remove. I found this nice shelving unit at Sam's that holds all my books, craft supplies, etc. This one unit has taken the place of 2 small bookcases and 1 pantry cabinet. Our son is taking the cabinet and I'm still deciding what to do about the bookcases. My next task is to work on my fabric baskets. They are a mess and I have a hard time finding anything. I have a storage tub that is full of scraps and they need to be organized as well. I need to get to work on some embroidered aprons for my art instructor. While they are stitching I will work on my fabric. Have a great day!

Just One of Those Days!

Have you ever had a day when you just could not get going? That's me today, can't seem to get anything done. Started sewing but stopped, opened up my paint bag and thought about working on a piece but stopped, looked at my list of birthday cards to make for Feb., but drew a blank on ideas. I did put on a crockpot of soup, yeah!!

Sometimes I feel like I'm just going around in circles. Right now I'm sitting here looking outside and watching the wind blow snow showers past the house. I guess today will be chalked up to ramblings and a little bit of everything. I know there's nothing wrong with that but it's not like me. I usually have my days planned out and stick to my plan. Oh well, I think I'll go have lunch and think about it. Have a good one!

"The Creation"

Well, here it is, my latest painting.

"The Creation", taken from Michelangelo's painting in the Sistine Chapel. This one goes to my church. It is 36" x 48", which is one of the largest I have painted. I'm anxious to get this framed and hung and I hope everyone will enjoy it for years to come.
Next on the list is a portrait of Ricky. He's been asking me when I was going to paint a picture of him. I told him that I would start his as soon as I finished the one for the church. Now I just have to pick out the photo I'm going to use.

Too Much Stuff

Have you ever had so much that you wanted to do but just couldn't find the time for all of it? That is my biggest problem. I love to make quilts on a daily basis. I go to an art studio and oil paint once a week and sometimes I paint at home. I am sending birthday cards, which I like to make, to all of my family and friends this year. I do some type of hand work at night while I watch TV. The one thing I can't seem to find time to do is scrapbooking. I have a lot of pictures and all of the supplies but the time just doesn't come. I was thinking about this last week and wondering how to get this done. I'm still thinking but would love some input if you have it. Maybe I can include this hobby in my "payment for playing", you know, the exercise. Oh,Oh, I know! I can treat it like a challenge. I am in a couple of quilt groups that offer a weekly challenge to complete a quilt block. I think I will try to add a challenge to myself to complete a page or two per week. Isn't it amazing how talking with friends will bring ideas to you? Thanks for listening! I'll let you know how well I do. Off to work and play so have a good day!

Talking to Myself!

Yesterday I had a long talk with myself about the time I spend doing things I really enjoy compared to the time I spend taking care of myself. I came to the decision that if I really want to sew or paint all day I have to pay for it. My payment is exercise. So, after playing in my studio yesterday, I "climbed those stairs" and spent 30 minutes on the treadmill. I actually felt good after it was over.

I have just finished my block of the week for my Dear Jane quilt,
as well as pressing some of my other quilt pieces, so now I am on my way out the door for a nice walk. I think if I look at "playing in my studio" as a reward for taking better care of myself I will enjoy it a lot more. The sun is out and the temp is about 57 so off I go. Have a great day!

What a mess!

Well, this morning I attempted quilting with a panto pattern and all I can say is what a mess. I used a small banner quilt I put together and tried the stars but I'm not sure that's what they look like. The good thing is the fabric hides a lot of the stars which is okay with me. I think I will put together a whole cloth quilt so I will have plenty to practice with. Anyway, I know you have to walk before you run.

That leads me to how nice it is to see the sun shining today. Temps are going up so I will be able to get back out there and walk today. Here's a question for you, why do people, me included, that have exercise equipment in their house always find other things to do instead of using them? I don't mind walking in 40 degree weather but I won't walk upstairs and get on the treadmill. I must have a serious conversation with myself about getting motivated.

I am now going to work on some of my quilt pieces and do I have a lot to put together. I'm working on 2 bed size quilts and this year I want to try hand piecing Quilted Diamonds by Linda Franz. If I would just get as excited about exercise as I do about quilting. Oh well.
I'll work on it, gotta go! See ya later!

Cell Phone Cover

Check this out! It's a cell phone cover I made for my friend Jana, to give to her mother. I had the pieces left over from a wall quilt. I added velcro inside to keep it closed and the ribbon so she can wear it around her neck. Her mom uses a walker and has trouble hanging on to her cell phone. Jana wanted something she could put around her neck and wear during the day. It's about 7" long and 4" wide. Her mother still sews and makes these hand towels that you can hang on your kitchen drawer handles. That's why I picked the lady with the pin cushion for the front. Hope she likes it!

Double Delight Fabrics

This month I start a new quilt from the Quiltville group. It's Bonnie Hunter's Double Delight. I don't have a lot of scraps cut so I am going with a controlled color pattern.

This was one of the mystery quilts that I was not able to work on when it first started. Several of us on the group have decided to work on it this year. I hope to get my fabrics cut this weekend.

I'm still working on the Carolina Christmas mystery. I am starting on step 4 which is the Broken Dishes units. Of course I have other projects in the works as well as quilting. I want to try my hand at fabric postcards, I have 2 oil paintings to finish and I have knitting, and cross stitching to finish. So much to do, but that's the fun of it all, trying to decide what to work on next.

Stay warm out there!

My Husband is Wonderful!

Last year Ricky bought me a long arm quilting machine and I was so excited. I don't have a computer system on it but that's okay. I am learning a lot by free motion. Well, yesterday while I was at my art class Ricky fixed a table that sets on the frame of my machine. He put a mylar top on the board which makes it smooth like a counter top. He also made a stylus for me and attached it to my machine frame. Now I can try my hand at pantos which will give me a very wide range of quilt patterns.

I found a video on YouTube about creating your on pantos by using EQ5. I could not believe how easy it was. So, last night I created my first panto and now all I have to do is put some fabric together to use for practice. Ricky said I should make a quilt, but I don't want to wait that long. Here is a picture of my setup. I think he did a great job and I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Getting Started!

Instead of resolutions I try to learn something new for the year. That's how I got into oil painting and knitting. Well, I was thinking about this year and decided to pick up something I already have learn how to use it. So my choices are EQ5 and Masterworks, which I have had but never put into practice. This means more work on the computer but I hope to be able to create my own projects which will be a big step for me. I also want to work on old projects that I have started but not completed. I was working on a cross stitch piece last night and "dozed off". Ricky looked at me and said I would never get that finished if I kept going to sleep. Instead of continuing to work on it, I put it aside and took a nap. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon. Enough of that, so that is my plan for this year, what's yours? By the way, I appreciate the comments that I receive even though I don't always reply to them. Have a great day!

Another Year Gone!

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Ricky and I were talking the other night about all that has happened in the past 10 years. We went over the accomplishments in our lives as well as in the lives of other family members. We reminisced about the friends and family that have passed and finally we thanked God for the blessings we have received. My wish to all is that the coming year will bring joy, laughter and fulfillment in your life. May God truly bless you!
