What A Mess! Washing Fabric

I always wash my fabric before I start a new quilt.  I have had this kit for a few years and wanted to finally do something with it, so I decided to wash the fabric.

This is what my fat quarters looked like after I took them out of the dryer.  All knotted together with loose strings.  Why I did not clip the edges is beyond me.  Oh well, with a little snipping of threads, a little spray starch and a little ironing I am ready to start cutting my pieces.

They look almost like they came straight out of the package.  I must remember to prep my fabric before I wash it.  It would save time in the end.

My Design Wall

I finally have a nice design wall for my quilts.  Ricky helped me put it up Tuesday morning.  It's nice to have a place to lay out my quilts and make sure they are correct or the way I want them before I start piecing all the rows together.  I am working on a photo or memory quilt for Ricky which has shots of the farm and our dogs.  It will be my first one put together using the wall so I'm anxious about getting started on it.  Today the temp is going up to around 70 and I plan on getting my windows cleaned this afternoon.  It is so nice to finally have some nice weather outside.  If Ricky trims the grapevines I might put some together for wreaths.  I guess I'll just have to play it by ear.

Sewing This Weekend!

I do not like to get outside when it's cold, even when it's like 30 degrees.  I spend a lot of time in the house just sitting by the fire.  While the temps dropped this week to around 3 degrees I worked on some needle turn applique, knitting and crochet.

This is one of 3 applique blocks that I have been working on.  It's from a BOM titled Garden Party.  You can find the link to Sheryl's sight on the right side of my blog page.  I have not put the eyes on because I am thinking about using small buttons.  I am going to wait a while and see how the other blocks turn out.

This is my latest quilt that I am working on.  I am just doing a stippling and have made one pass already.  Just this week I received a set of Red Snappers and I really like the way they work on my frame. This is the first quilt that I am using Superior Masterpiece thread on the top and Bottom Line on the bottom and I love the way it stitches.  I was a little concerned at first, thinking it would be to difficult to use but so far so good.  I plan on ordering a cone size if it continues to go as well on the rest of the quilt.  Tomorrow Ricky is supposed to put up my design wall.  I have 2 memory quilts that I want to work on and I need to lay them out so I can decide where to place the blocks.  Those pictures will come later.  Well, I gotta go and figure out what I'm having for my dinner so I'll chat later.  Stay safe out there!

Returned the Machine

Well, the Singer machine was a bust.  I was really excited about it Thursday morning, got my coffee and headed into my studio.  The first thing I tried was sewing on denim and it failed the test.  Oh, it would sew the seam without any problem but it would not sew through the layers on the side seams.  I think there were 8 layers and it stopped every single time.  So, I packed it back up and delivered it back to the store, received my credit and left with information on a Viking Sapphire 835.  I don't know about that one, but I'll check it out.  I believe that I will see if I can find a used commercial machine and that will solve my problem.   I'll start looking this week for a machine but in the mean time it's back to my Quilters Choice which works okay for now.

Did Not Purchase A Thing!!!

I was so good today, I went to 3 different shops and did not purchase one piece of fabric.  Yea for me!  I am on the No Buy Challenge through Stashbusters Yahoo Group and I looked but did not buy, fabric that is.  I did, however buy template material, Roxanne's glue and another sewing machine.  This one is a Singer and it's supposed to be a "heavy duty" machine.  I have been looking for a machine that I can use for Home Dec projects, hemming Ricky's blue jeans and thread painting.  I have 10 days to try it out and see if I like it, if not I can return it for a full refund.  How great is that so tomorrow I get to play with my new "toy" and see if it suits my needs. Enjoy you day and I chat with ya later.
