Do What Matters Most

As you know, I have branched off into mixed media, drawing, etc. from just oil painting and I absolutely love it.  Lately I have been working in an altered book journal.  Well, yesterday I pulled out an old canvas panel and played around with it.
I found a new set of videos by Christy Tomlinson a mixed media artist.  Each month she creates a canvas from a kit that she has available through  Scarlet Lime.  I love her work and decided to try to follow her video.  Here is my take on "Do What Matters Most".

I started with layers of paint, added a baby wipe that I had cleaned my hands with, cut the tree from scrapbook paper, cut the leaves from scrapbook tags, stamped the words and edge and used the dots from the center of the border used across the bottom.  I love it!!  If you like mixed media or art at all, check out her blog and website.  She has great tips and techniques.  Have a wonderful day.

New Blocks

The last few days have been quite productive for me.  Here are a few pics of what I have been up to.

Five new blocks for the Just Takes Two quilt.  First time ever paper piecing a fan block.

Twenty four new blocks from a pattern called Kwik kraz Too from Two Kwik Quilters and believe me they are right on the money. I worked up these blocks in a day & half.  Probably could have done them all in one day if I had started early morning.  I have enough fabric left over to work up another 12 or I may try to find extra to do another 24 in order to make it queen size.

Three new blocks for my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilt.  Very happy with my accomplishments.
Praying for all vetrans, service men & women today. Have a safe Memorial Day!

Play Day

The heat/air guy was here cleaning our system, which gave me time to update my Ipad to Itunes.  Also added the free Kindle app, YEA!.  Now I have my kindle books on my Ipad.  Still sewing, painting & drawing.  Here is my newest drawing worked with my new Prismacolor pencils (face & hair only).
I printed off a copy of the photo and added her to the page. I worked the background with watercolors and soft pastel chalks.  She is my art page in my Soulistry Journal.  The prompt was A Spirituality of Play.  One question was "When was the last time you truly played."  I spent about 3 hours, just playing with my new pencil set and her face is what came from that.

So, when was the last time you truly played and what did you do?  I would love to hear about it.

Moms Drawing

I have been talking to mom about my drawings and the other day I showed her some of them so she could give me an idea about what I'm doing wrong. She gave me a lot of tips and was very helpful and encouraging. I mentioned that we should draw together. Mom was always the artist in the family. I bought her a sketch book and pencils, left it with her and ask her to draw me a face. On Sunday, Mothers Day, I was blown away when she showed me her drawing. She may not be able to write in cursive anymore and she has trouble remembering what day it is, but she can still draw. She was so excited about what she had done. It was the best Mothers Day ever.

Chocolate and Quilts!

Chocolate and quilts, now what better way is there to spend the day.  I haven't actually been eating chocolate, I've been piecing chocolate quilt blocks.  I'm working on a block a month from my local quilt shop and so far, each block has chocolate in the title.  Here are the three blocks I completed today.

"Chocolate Butter Cream"

"Chocolate Cherry Cordial"

"Chocolate Macadamia Chew"

Today has been one of those nice, peaceful day.  No phone calls, no visitors, no errands to run, just an easy day of sewing and boy has it been fun.  Now I think I'll go have a treat, oh why not,  something chocolate sounds pretty good.

Flower Girl

Well, yesterday was absolutely the "pits" for me.  After we got JoJo buried, I decided to make chocolate chip cookies.  I can't think of a better comfort food than that.  Today I wanted to do something happy so I watched art videos and worked in my Book of Days journal.

She makes me smile and that makes my day.  Have a great one.

Goodbye my JoJo

We lost our precious JoJo this morning.  He had been sick for some time with Cushing's disease and this weekend things got progressively worse.  I must share this story with you.
JoJo originally belonged to our neighbor.  They had a small Yorkie that was always sick and they could not keep him any longer.  Ricky and I brought him home with us.   Well, the next morning JoJo was sitting on our front porch.

Little Will
He wanted Will to come out and play. This went on for a while until one night JoJo did not go home. Ricky went over and talked to the neighbor and they let us have him. JoJo and Will were the best of buddies for close to 12 years.  We will miss him but we were blessed to have him as a part of our family.

Pets Are Our Children

I wrote this in my journal this morning.  Waiting at the vet with Rachel, my Yorkie.

"Rachel" taken about 4 yrs. ago

She has been sick for at least 24 hours.  Probably has pancreatitis.  It's amazing how a Vets office is so much like a Pediatrician's office.  People bringing in their "kids" to be checked out by the doctor.  Temperature check, listen to breathing and heart. Waiting for results from blood work.  All the time while Rachel is climbing up and down, not wanting to be there but not knowing where to go.  Our pets are just like our children.  We worry about them, get up all hours of the night with them and as soon as the Vet's office is open we are right there ready for the doctor to help make them feel better.

Confirmed pancreatitis, so she had a shot. and we came home with antibiotics and anti-nausea medicine.  I have stayed in the house with her today to watch her.  I hope tomorrow will be better for her because she sure has been sick.

Natures Voice

Here I am sitting on my patio, having coffee, listening to the birds on a quiet Wednesday morning. It's that time before everything starts stirring and life gets to busy. To notice anything. There's a soft breeze blowing through the willow tree and I pause for a moment to listen to the voice of nature. I just heard a little humming bird. They have a very unique sound. It won't be long before they all rerun and greet me every morning with their song and dance. The red birds are flying, the geese are talking and the doves are cooing. As I listen to all of nature I can't help but wonder how some can think there is no God. What silence and stillness there would be without the birds singing and without the wind that sings through the trees saying listen, listen, listen to me. Open your heart and feel my love for I have made this day for you. Thank you God for giving me this day and your voice of nature.
