Tuesday Treasure

Today I would like to share my Tuesday Treasure with you.

They're my cute little angels that greets me everyday I walk into my studio.

They actually belonged to my Mom and spent many a year in her kitchen.  I don't know how old they are or where she found them but they give me a peaceful feeling knowing they are watching over me every day.  You can visit Melody for Tuesday Treasures if you would like.  Have a wonderful day!

New blocks

Just a quick post to let you know what I've been up to.  I'm working on my Orca Bay as leaders and enders, pieced new DJ, Sylvia's and Just Takes Two blocks.

Dear Jane is the one with purple, Sylvia's Bridal is the blue and Just Takes Two is in red.

I also have another page spread from my book of days. My chosen word for this year is IMAGINE.  That's what I stamped but it's not easy to read.  I think I need to change the color of the letters so they will stand out more.  I'm thinkin' about it.  This is so much fun and I'm learning new techniques each day.  I learned how to put the three quilt blocks in a collage.  Now I can use that to collage my own photos and use in my book.  I'm soooo excited!!!!

Spectacular Sunrise

Wow, I have just got to share this with you.  Wednesday morning I woke up early, about 4:30, don't ask why, I just do that sometimes.  I actually enjoy early mornings, sometimes, anyway I stepped out on my back porch right before daylight and this is what I saw.

I was in awe at this view.  I admit I have some wonderful sunsets, but this sunrise was spectacular.  The bright color of the sun coming through the clouds with the darkness of the trees just took my breath.  I think this quote sums it up for me. "With each new dawn it's as if God smiles from heaven, saying, "Hope again...hope again."

Altered Book Cover

Okay, here it is, my VERY FIRST altered book cover.  I'm so excited about this project!!!!

I watched Effy's video, took notes and then started playing. First I found an old book (my neighbor owns an antique store and had one he gave me) covered the pages with paper to protect them then added some acrylic paint, torn scrapbook papers with mod podge and more paint.  I let it dry overnight while I thought about how I wanted to personalize it.  Several ideas came to mind but I settled on my a print of my last painting.  I pulled it up in Picasa editor (never used it before) and figured out how to add text then printed it off.  Glued it down (more mod podge), dried it with a heat gun, added a stamped border around and a little glitter.  I love the finished look.

Next I will be working on the inside cover, maybe a little freehand drawing, and adding my thoughts about the process.  Stay tuned!

I'm Steppin' Out

Yes, I'm stepping out of my box, comfort zone, or whatever you want to call it. Each year I learn something new instead of making resolutions and it has taken me this long to decide what that will be.

First I must give credit to all the bloggers out there because your posts allow us to read and admire so much that we would not otherwise know is out there.  So I say THANK YOU!!!!

Last week while reading Angela's Textile Art  blog I noticed a post on Jan 5th that caught my eye.  I have always been interested in journaling and admire mixed media art.  Well, I just had to check out what she was talking about and BAM!!! just like that I'm HOOKED!!!

In you're into mixed media, altered books, etc, you must check out Effy Wild's work at Book of Days.
I spent one afternoon watching her tutorials and it looks like so much fun that I can not resist.  So I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and I'm going to work on my own Book of Days.  Once I get it going I will post a picture or two and who knows maybe someone reading this will try it too.

Back in the Groove!

I think I am finally back in the groove, sewing that is.  I have completed 2 Dear Jane blocks C-9 & B-5.  Each one has applique pieces and I don't do that very well.  Block 2 of my  Just Takes Two and J-1 of my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler block.  I also have 3/4 of step 1 of  my Double Delight quilt complete, and i started piecing my Blue Ridge Beauty rows together.  Pictures of my blocks are on the quilt pages.

I have changed a few things about my piecing and I hope it works to my benefit.  I have started using 50# thread, slowed my machine down and stopped using a quarter inch foot.  This year I want to be more accurate in my work and I hope these changes will help.

Just Takes Two

Well, call me CRAZY but here is another quilt I want to work on.  It is called Just Takes Two because all you need are two fabrics.  I have had this fabric for a long time, just waiting for something to inspire me, and I think this quilt is absolutely perfect.

You can read all about it on the  Just Takes Two website or Gay Bomers site,
Sentimental Stitches.  Gay has joined with Brenda Papadakis to create this quilt and I am very excited about it.  The blocks will vary from 3" to 15" and will be available around the 1st and 15th of each month. You still have time to get included if you are interested.

Water Lillies

After my last painting I wanted to do something just for fun and this is what I came up with.

"Water Lillies"

This is from a study of a Monet painting.  I started it with a pallet knife and after that was dry I came back and added the highlights with a dry brush.  I had so much fun and it was so relaxing to do.
