New Classes

As you all are aware, I am working on this Book of Days Art Journal and you know how I am having fits with drawing faces.   I also have trouble writing due to hand tremors (doc says they are instinct tremors caused from too much adrenalin flowing through my brain).  Anyway, through my association with other women in found to online courses.

One is Letter Love 101 offered by Joanne Sharpe.  This is course is all about creating letters in all kinds of shapes and sizes.  I pray that it will help me in controlling my tremors and allow me to write my words with ease.  Thank you Pippa for posting about on your blog.

The other course is Art, Heart and Healing that is offered by Tamara Laporte.  This course is about creating journal pages in mixed media.  In the first lesson she offers instructions on creating a front face portrait as well as tips on shading, etc.  Thanks to Tralasong for giving me info on Tamara.

I am very excited about these classes and with faith and determination I will reach my goal.

Happy Is...

What is happy to you?  Is it laughing, spending time with family and friends, cooking, etc?  Today, for me, happy is....

Getting better every day!  Some of you may be aware of my struggle with drawing faces.  Actually, not just faces, but any type of drawing.  I can draw on a canvas if I grid it out and grid the photo.  Then I can paint the picture and get great results, but I can't draw.  I mean just sit down and draw something I have in my head.

This year my challenge to learn something new is just that, drawing.  I am working on that as I also learn how to create an art journal through Book of Days.   So today I am happy that I am making progress with my faces.  I will get there, I just have to keep practicing.  Now I'm off to do some sewing.  Have a good one and do something that makes you happy today.

Tuesday Treasure

Ok, I know, it's Monday 5:22pm central time, but I want to share my Tuesday Treasure with everyone this evening.  Melody at House on the Side of the Hill in Australia always shares a Tuesday Treasure.  If you would like to share something pop over to her site and join in.

Today I'm sharing my grandmother's hat.  I can't tell you how old it is, but I know she wore that hat during the summer, while working in the garden, fishing and painting.  She was always painting furniture.

She was a wonderful woman, born in Dec. 1900 and lived 82 years. I think of her often, sitting in her rocker, reading her victorian novels.  I ask her one time for something to read and she said I could pick one but they were pretty risque'.  God love her, I just giggled at that.   She lived with us after my grandfather passed and one day I came home all upset over some boyfriend that I had split with and I will never forget her words to me.  She said, "Everyone makes mistakes, you just have to chalk them up to experience, learn from it and keep on living."  I can't tell you how many times I have repeated those words.  So simple, but so true.

Color

Today my page started out to be a face. As you can see, that's not what I ended up with. At least I know I can go in a different direction and still come out okay. I love the colors on this page and the quote from Wassily Kandinsky is so appropriate. He was a Russian artist born in 1866 and died in 1944. His work was Expressionism; abstract. He is credited with the first purely abstract works. He used very vivid colors and I wanted to create a page reflecting what I see with my eyes.

This is the quote on the page:
Color is the key.  The eye is the hammer.  The soul is the piano with its many chords.  The artist is the hand that, by touching this or that key, sets the soul vibrating automatically.

I will not give up on drawing and painting a face that I am happy with and one day I will get there.
I know it takes practice and I will continue to work on this challenge.  Whenever I mess up I will just have to create something to cover it up.  If they turn out like this one, I'll be happy.

Monet Makes Me Smile

I had so much fun with my first Monet painting that I decided to work on another one and here it is.  I started on it this morning and finished it about an hour ago.

"Water Lilies 2"

I love the paintings of his garden with the willow trees and water lilies.  He loved his garden and created beautiful paintings from various locations.  This painting is from his work "Water Lilies and Clouds" that he painted in 1903.  I really admire his work and just looking at his paintings makes me smile.  I feel like I'm right there, standing in the garden, with the breeze blowing through the willows and the lilies floating across the water.  I can just imagine how peaceful it would be.  I would love to have that kind of garden outside my door.

Top Half

Here it is, the top half of my Blue Ridge Beauty quilt.  I'm very pleased with the way it looks.

Now, if I can just get the bottom half to go together as well as this one I'll be okay.  Gotta run, Ricky wants to go to Sam's Club before the rain and snow mix comes in.  Stay safe and warm out there.

Faith and Wisdom

I haven't posted in a while due to the "blahs" and computer problems.  Loaded Office 10 without problems so I decided to upgrade to Windows 7.  I have spent the last 3 days trying, unsuccessfully to download 7.  Even had extra RAM added  so my system would be able to support it.  After 2 hrs on the phone with the tech this morning I am still without it, even though I have paid for it.  Lesson learned, always buy the disk.  Now I have to wait until they can send me a backup disk on Monday.

Anyway, after time on the phone this morning I decided I needed a stress relief.  I have been working on my Blue Ridge Beauty quilt.  I now have the top half together and the bottom half on my design wall.  Yea!!!   I will post pics of it later, but I did want to post a pic of my art journal page I made today.

If I can only remember to keep my faith that all will work out and the wisdom to realize that I can't fix everything I would be better off.  So, this afternoon I am walking away from it and going inside to sit by the fire and enjoy some tea.  Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Acceptance

On of the prompts for my Book of Days is Accept.  We needed to think about where we were in our artistic journey, & accept it.  I fully accept where I am.  I may not be happy with everything that I do, but who is.  I was reading my Quilting Arts magazine & saw an ad for Create 2012.  It had a collage in a profile of a face & it hit me like a bolt of lightning.  I knew what I would do for my page.

I made a picture of my profile, printed it out on paper.  I then made a collage of my artwork, printed it out and started working.  This is my completed page for week 3. I am happy very with the way it turned out.  Oh, I also made my first tip-in.

That's the piece that flips out.  Cool!  My question to myself is, where do I go from here?  I don't know, but I do believe I will enjoy the journey.
May your dreams take you to the corner of your smiles. Have a blessed day.
