Dutch Dolls

Well, I couldn't take that background on my blog.  It had to go, not that I didn't like the color, I did but I wanted something that really spoke to me.  I noticed that you could use your own picture so I used this one...

This is one of my first quilts I made.  I can't take all the credit though.

My Grandmother and Mother

My grandmother was a quilter and the Dutch dolls were left over from her piecing days.  I used them to make this small wall quilt and I have it in my studio to remind me her and my heritage.

Now, I will be able to live with my blog but I've got to figure out how to fix that picture of my studio.  I need to extend it across the page.  Oh well, that's for another day.  Today I'm still cleaning.  What are you doing today?  What ever it is I hope you are having fun.

Studio Cleaning

I am so done with my studio right now.  Sometimes I get to the point that I don't want to even open the door.  I know this is crazy because I am so thankful that I have a separate place but it just doesn't say "come in and let's play".  So, it's time for a change.  I need color and lots of it!  Here is a photo I found on the allsorts website.  I love the colors plus, she has a great site.

Most of my furniture is white which is great.  I don't have a hutch like that but I do have baskets on the wall holding my fabric.

I'm leaning toward a teal color or maybe 2 or 3 complimentary colors.  What colors are in your creative space?  I would love to have suggestions.

Updates

Today I am updating my blog.  I have changed a few things and now I'm testing out a post that will publish at a later time.  I know this can be done, I just don't know how.  I guess I need to read the how-to section.  I will if this doesn't work or if anyone out there would like to comment I would appreciate it. Thanks and have a great day.

Watercolors and Rain

Watercolors and rain seem to go together, don't ya' think so?  Rain, that's what we have had most of the day (Saturday the 18th).  Not heavy, just a steady drizzle so I decided to play with my watercolors.  I have had the set for quite some time and I have been afraid to use them.  For me, going from oil paints to watercolor is a big step.
Anyway, I read about this tutorial on Julie Fei-Fan Balzar's blog Balzar Designs and thought it would be great for my first attempt.

This is the photo I used.

This is how I printed it.

This is my completed work.

I will be working on other pictures in the future.  It really is easy once you get past the intimidation of trying something new.  I had to push past my "what if I mess up" voice in my head and go for it.  I'm glad I did, I like it.
